Kidnapping suspect arrested thanks to "most wanted" posting on St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara
In June, the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office started posting a "weekly most wanted" person on the agency's Facebook page, facebook.com/stlucisheriff.
Today, it paid off with the arrest of a kidnapping suspect, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"This afternoon, our warrants detectives arrested Yvette McClain, 25, of Vero Beach, for a kidnapping that took place in February," Sheriff Mascara said. "This was only the second 'most wanted' person we had posted to Facebook. This arrest demonstrates the value of Facebook to law enforcement."
Detectives had exhausted their leads in the case, and that's why it was posted to the Sheriff's Office's Facebook page July 1. McClain's photo, physical description and criminal charge were posted, along with the telephone number of Sheriff's Sgt. Frank Pellegrini (772-462-3213), who heads the agency's warrants unit.
This morning, Sgt. Pellegrini received a telephone call from a family member who had seen the "most wanted" posting on the Facebook page. The family member and McClain came to Sgt. Pellegrini's office later in the day. Detectives arrested McClain at 12:16 p.m.
She was taken to the St. Lucie County jail where she posted $10,000 bond and was released.
