St. Lucie County Sheriff's detectives investigate homicide just north of Fort Pierce, public's help needed, according to Sheriff Mascara
Deputies of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office are investigating the shooting death late this afternoon of a 17-year-old Fort Pierce youth just north of Fort Pierce, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
Devontae Dukes, 17, was pronounced dead at the emergency room of Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute, Fort Pierce, where he was taken by county Fire Rescue ambulance.
Dukes and his brother were together near North 35th Street and Avenue M shortly before 6 p.m. when a car pulled close by and someone fired at the two, hitting Devontae Dukes. He ran away, and fell near North 33rd Street and Avenue N, Sheriff Mascara said.
He was treated there by county Fire Rescue paramedics, then taken by county Fire Rescue ambulance to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are questioning possible witnesses, but more information is needed, Sheriff Mascara said.
