St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara is inviting members of the public to learn more about their Sheriff's Office by attending the Sheriff's Citizens Academy with classes beginning Aug. 28.
"People want to know how the Sheriff's Office protects the public and helps make this a safe community," Sheriff Mascara said. "We want people to know us better, and the citizens academy is one of the best ways to help people gain this knowledge. We have had students ranging in age from the teens to the 80s, so all ages are welcome."
Classes begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Sheriff's Office headquarters, 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce. All classes meet on Wednesday evenings, except for two Saturday classes. The total number of class hours is 52.

Students will also shoot real guns at our firearms range, a laser gun at the "MILO" simulator, drive a Sheriff's Office vehicle, participate in a four-hour ride-along with a patrol deputy and much more.
