St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office closes investigation of allegations by former employee of county Humane Society with finding of "unfounded," according to Sheriff Mascara
"The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office has closed its investigation into allegations of animal cruelty at the Humane Society with a finding that all allegations were unfounded," said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
A former Humane Society employee, terminated by the Humane Society, made the allegations, Sheriff Mascara said. "We investigated all of the claims made by the former employee," Sheriff Mascara said. "We questioned her as well as employees of the Humane Society named by the former employee. The investigation determined that animal cruelty or abuse did not take place as alleged."
At the conclusion of the investigation, the former employee concurred that although she didn't agree with certain actions by Humane Society staff members, those actions were not illegal or violations of Humane Society policy, Sheriff Mascara said.
