St. Lucie County deputies arrest homeless man who stole two golf carts from North county barrier island homes, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara
A homeless 25-year-old man stole a golf cart from a North St. Lucie County, barrier island home Monday afternoon, drove it until it ran out of power, then stole another cart Tuesday morning from a nearby home, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"Tyler Tolle, the homeless man, told deputies he stole the cart Monday afternoon and abandoned it when it stopped running," Sheriff Mascara said. "Then he went to a nearby home and stole another one Tuesday, claiming he was going to return it when he got back from the store."
The owner of the second stolen cart, David Price, of 5277 Keel Way, caught Tolle riding the cart Tuesday, stopped him and called authorities.
Tolle admitted stealing a golf cart Monday afternoon from the office of Ocean Resorts and driving it until it ran out of power. The owner of that cart, Jack F. Gross, of 5306 Loggerhead Park, Ocean Resorts, had recovered his golf cart by the time Price caught Tolle with the second stolen golf cart, Sheriff Mascara said.
Tolle told deputies he took the second golf cart because it was against the law for the owner of the cart to leave the keys in the ignition.
Tolle was jailed on two charges of grand theft, according to the Sheriff.
